If I were a K-2 teacher, I would feel prepared to implement the communication and collaboration standard. In my own words, I would say this standard entails students' ability to conduct basic searches using databases and communicate with peers and teachers using technology. As a college student, I have extensive experience with digital tools, searching the internet, and communicating electronically. I am familiar with most scholarly databases and communication platforms used in educational settings. For these reasons, I feel confident teaching these skills to students.  The CPALMS Educator Toolkit is an online platform that provides substantial educational resources, such as lesson plans, assessments, student resources, etc. After reviewing the Kindergarten resources, I think the  CPALMS Educator Toolkit could be extremely helpful for me when trying to come up with new lesson plans and activities for my students. There are endless creative lesson plans that I would consider us...

Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects a person's original work. It also allows the copyright owner to give permission to or restrict others from legally using their work. Fair use is a set of guidelines for using copyrighted material without permission from the owner. The copyrighted material may only be used under certain circumstances, for example for educational purposes. As a teacher, I would be sure to closely follow the fair use guidelines to set a good example for my students and also to respect the hard work of others. If I were to be using copyrighted material, I would clearly include a citation and give credit to the owner. When developing my own instructional materials I would copyright it but allow for it to be used by others as long as proper credit is given. Additionally, I would require my students of all ages to include citations to protect themselves and the work they are referencing. As technology use continues to grow in education, problems h...

I have been using Microsoft Word for as long as I remember. My mom introduced me to the application in high school after noticing I was using Pages on my MacBook. It took me some time to get comfortable with Word but ever since then, it has been my go-to application for all my assignments requiring writing. At FSU specifically, Word has been a great tool for me to successfully complete my assignments with the correct formatting. I enjoy using Word because of the amount of tools it gives me access to and how easy it is to navigate, The only time I use a different word processing software is when I am doing group work because I have found that Google Docs makes it easier to have multiple people editing at the same time.  The ISTE Standards for Educators provide a framework for educators to successfully support their students and improve their teaching skills. The standard that is most meaningful to me is the learner goal for educators. The learner standard encourages educators to con...

Hi! My name is Rebekka Friborg and I am a current senior at Florida State University. I am completing two degrees, the first is in Psychology with a minor in Entrepreneurship and the second is in Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Education. Upon graduating, I plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with the end goal of owning a trauma-specific private practice. During my time at FSU, I have also immersed myself in Realizing Everyone's Need for Emotional Wellness (RENEW), which is a student-led mental health advocacy and peer-education program sponsored by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). I am currently serving my second year as the Director of Programming for RENEW. Apart from my passion for advocating for mental health, I enjoy going on hikes, reading, hanging out with friends, and binge-watching new shows.  Prior to this class, I have used various forms of technology in an educational setting. I use my MacBook and my iPad daily to complete ...
