Blog Journal #6
Diigo is a social bookmarking website that allows you to bookmark, annotate, and highlight websites privately and in existing groups. I used Diigo for the first time this past week and found it to be relatively easy to navigate and use. I liked being given the ability to annotate and highlight directly on websites I was viewing rather than having to download PDF versions. I also liked that I was able to share the websites, including my highlighting and annotations, in my group with a description. The only downside I found to using Diigo was that it requires users to stay within one browser tab to use the system.
In addition to using Diigo, I also recently started a blog on this page. Blogging has been a very enjoyable experience for me and I have learned a lot from it. First off, I have learned that the way you format your writing can significantly increase the reading experience for your readers. I have also learned that blogging can be used as a great tool to reflect and really integrate what you have been learning recently. It encourages you to think deeply about prompts and consequently reinforces learning, which is something I really like.
To expand upon Web 2.0 tools, I would like to share about Pinterest as a tool for teachers. I am sure most of you have heard of it, but I am less sure that you have used it. Pinterest functions as a virtual bulletin board and is a great Web 2.0 tool to use for organizing lesson plan ideas, crafts, and activities. It allows users to search for specific items and can also be used to connect with other teachers since it has features such as comments and messages. I have enjoyed using Pinterest for multiple functions in my life and would strongly encourage teachers to take a look! You can access Pinterest here.
